As the ward pages and gallery show, Bradford South is a diverse constituency with widespread appeal. The six wards - Great Horton, Queensbury, Royds, Tong, Wibsey and Wyke - offer an array of attractions to the constituency's rising population. Over 90,000 people live near a range of contrasting places; from historical villages to successful industrial sites, beautifully preserved parks to well-redeveloped housing estates.
For all these reasons and more, Bradford South is both a rewarding and challenging constituency to represent. Gerry has worked tirelessly to transform Bradford South; listing the reversal of Buttershaw estate's fortunes as one of his many achievements. He has also worked hard to help local employers; many of which still prosper after over a century of business in the constituency. He is equally proud of the sporting heritage of Bradford South too, which hosts Bradford Park Avenue FC and the hugely successful Bradford Bulls rugby league club.
Whilst these features paint a good picture of Bradford South, the future looks even better. For example, almost 25% more pupils achieved five GCSE A*-C grades in Bradford South in 2006 compared to 1997; higher than the averages regionally and nationally. The foundations for the City's regeneration are being laid down too. So whilst Bradford South has improved radically over recent years, there is a lot more yet to come.
