Our city is not perfect and it faces many challenges. But to face those challenges we need our city’s traditional values of tolerance, respect and community to be our guiding lights.
We do not want and we do not welcome extremists of any persuasion to our city.

Our city faces many challenges. As Bradfordians we know that there are issues of concern that we must address and that there are problems that we must resolve together.
We also know that the vast majority of people from all backgrounds want to find solutions that are fair and respectful to all, and that do not scapegoat or stigmatise individuals or communities.

Today the Telegraph & Argus is launching a campaign to keep hatred and violence off the streets of our beloved city.
We are asking T&A readers to join us in persuading the Home Secretary to stop a planned demonstration by the English Defence League in Bradford at the end of August.

Figures released this week show that for the first time ever the majority of young women are going to university. Entrance figures for 2008-09 show that 51% of young women entered Higher Education, the first time that figure has ever moved above the 50% mark. The figure for young men is 40%. In 1980 only 1 in 10 young women went into Higher Education.

Last Friday Gerry had another busy day out and about in the constituency.
First up was a visit to Buttershaw Business and Enterprise College where presentations were made to Gerry by year 9 GCSE Citizenship pupils. As part of their GCSE the students had to plan, carry out and evaluate a campaign on chosen themes which were; lowering the voting age to 16 and introducing a minimum wage for 14-16 year olds. The pupils had undertaken a survey at school about pay and working conditions for 14-16 year olds and also made leaflets which were on display. They then gave a presentation putting forward their proposals and ideas for having a minimum wage for 14-16 year olds. There then followed a question and answer session. Gerry was very impressed by the hard work and enthusiasm shown by the students.
